This paper contends that the complexity of the security threats in the world today mean that the UN needs to work more closely with regional organizations, including the EU, on issues such as conflict prevention, crisis management, peacekeeping and peace-building. To this end, the author 1) discusses some of the critical steps which have already occurred in terms of UN-EU cooperation; 2) appraises some of the EU's political contributions to global governance; and 3) provides a legal assessment of UN-EU cooperation and the limits of this cooperation.
