This brief examines the tensions that exist in Afghanistan-Pakistan economic relations, the existing agreements they have on trade, and the future direction their economic ties may take. While both countries signed an agreement in 2010 to strengthen their trade relations, the pact's implementation has been mixed, with trade barriers continuing to exist on both sides of the border. To reverse this problem, the brief's authors provide several recommendations on how Afghanistan and Pakistan can economically open up to each other and to Central and South Asia.
