This brief contends that Pakistan's National Action Plan (NAP) cannot be truly effective in dealing with the country's terrorism problem without offering a deradicalization program for reintegrating would-be terrorists and disengaging them from conflict. The author also discusses 1) some of the drivers of radicalization and militancy in Pakistan; 2) the current efforts which the country is undertaking in the area of deradicalization; 3) what Pakistan can learn from other countries which have carried out deradicalization programs; and 4) what Pakistan can do next to adopt a nationwide deradicalization program.
