This brief provides an overview of the various issues affecting Myanmar-China relations in 2015. These include Chinese calculations of strategic support from Myanmar after the November elections there, the arrest and subsequent release of 100 illegal Chinese loggers in Myanmar, and the conflict between ethnic groups and the government in Myanmar. The author argues that, while awaiting the election results, Beijing is generally confident that no president of Myanmar will pursue a hostile policy toward China or completely ignore China’s preferences.
