This paper discusses the idea and concept of China’s proposed “Belt and Road (BR)” initiative or the Global Economic Strategy, which comprises of two main components – the Silk Road Economic Belt (SREB) and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. The authors then go on to discuss 1) the aim and impact of BR initiative on all dimensions of trade and the economic development of the participating economies; 2) the challenges and funding requirements to support the BR initiative; and 3) the likely economic benefits of the BR initiative.
