In this transcript, General John Allen (USA, ret) shares his views on the battle against ISIS and what it reveals about US foreign policy. More specifically, he reviews 1) the murderous group's structure and resources, modus operandi and expansionist bent; 2) the anti-ISIS coalition’s five-part strategy against the group, which involves military operations, interdicting its finances, stemming the flow of foreign fighters to the Middle East, competing in the information sphere, and 'stabilizing' local populations; 3) the strengths and weaknesses of the coalition strategy; 4) the Gulf Arab states’ role in the fight against ISIS; and 5) Russia's intervention in Syria and the obstacles it creates. (Note: Allen served as the Special Presidential Envoy to the multinational coalition fighting ISIS between September 2014 and October 2015.)
