This paper discusses Aromanians (also known as "Vlachs") identity factors in Albania. The author characterizes the Albanian Aromanians' new emphasis of their ethnicity as a pragmatic strategy of adjustment to successes and failures in the Albanian political transition. The author concludes that by renouncing a local identification in favor of one associated with more powerful states, they create access to scarce social, economic, political and cultural resources while profiting from new opportunities in the Albanian transition process.
