This analysis focuses on Pakistan’s prestige-seeking efforts to join the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) and the US' long-awaited tit-for-tat support for the move. Indeed, Washington will support Islamabad's candidacy only if it agrees to limit its nuclear weapons program. With this stipulation on the table, no NSG agreement is actually in sight, but nonproliferation advocates should interpret Pakistan’s willingness to respect the rules of global nuclear commerce as a positive step.
