This paper examines the scale and nature of the ethnically motivated incidents in Serbia. The study argues that while the incidents in 2004 were alarming, their real significance lies in the broader problems they shed a light on. The author states that nationalism and strained minority-majority relations are not merely a passing legacy of the Miloshević era, but more deeply engrained and remain a formidable obstacle if not tackled.
