This paper analyzes the problems and prospects of the Xinjiang, China’s western border province. The study outlines the conflict between China's official policy and the quest of the native Uyghur Turkish Muslims for autonomy. The paper offers a set of policy recommendations to the US, China the Uyghurs and the neighboring countries.
