This case study examines the risks associated with the long-term use of nuclear energy to fill the growing gap between world energy demand and supplies. The author outlines some of the risks associated with nuclear technology, including safety and security issues, especially regarding the transportation of radioactive waste and the danger of the proliferation of nuclear materials. She also discussees the uncertainties surrounding the licensing, financing, construction and regulation of new reactors, as well as the problems associated with the building of long-term disposal repositories.
