This is a report on a conference that explored Turkey's changing relationship and potential conflicts with the countries of the Middle East shortly after the end of the Cold War. The paper sheds light on Turkey's historical and geostrategic background, explores its relationship with Iraq before the background of the Kurdish question and addresses the relations with Iran. Subsequently, the paper reviews Turkey's relations with Syria, focusing on the struggle for water and assesses the country's future role in the region. The paper argues that the end of the Cold War will lead to an eastward shift in Turkey's foreign policy.
