This report by the United States Institute of Peace summarizes the outcome of a public forum on the escalating conflict in Afghanistan. The paper considers the sources of the conflict and the prospects for a peace agreement, reconstruction and state building. In particular, the paper looks at the role of the Taliban and other regional actors and assesses implications of situation in Afghanistan for US policy and the international community.
