This report examines Islamist groups in Bangladesh and their effects upon the national and regional stability. It is partly based on field research and interviews conducted in the region in August 2005. The author outlines the background of Islam, its transformation phase as well as the growth of Islamist groups. He demonstrates the impact of the country's instability on India's northeast region.
