This report discusses the legacy and implications of George F Kennan's philosophy, who is considered to be the father of the US containment strategy. It examines the historical context of the "Long Telegram" and assesses Kennan's thinking as the director of the State Department Policy Planning Staff. The author also reflects on the lessons of Kennan's prescriptions and strategy and asks whether his legacy could be reconciled with the "democratic peace" theory.
