This report describes the outcomes of a workshop on the future of Macedonia. The author stresses the importance of the protection of individual rights, describes the inadequacy of the state institutions and illustrates the relations of Macedonia to Europe. The paper identifies measures necessary to develop a functioning government and to ameliorate ethnic frictions, including economic development, a more active civil society and better protection of individual rights in the context of stronger law enforcement.
