This paper discusses the People's Republic of China's new antitrust law, coming into force in 2008. The author presents the main points of the new law and argues that it remains to be seen, whether the rules can fulfill the expectations of the public opinion. The paper concludes that the new law roughly covers all the issues which are, from a European point of view, considered vital for an effective antitrust legislation.
