This paper describes how the 1970s were a horrific time for Cambodia and its inhabitants. The author outlines how the civil war along with spillover from the conflict in neighboring Vietnam resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, the uprooting of millions and the destruction of vast amounts of arable land. The paper details the devasting impact of the Khmer Rouge and its leader Pol Pot's regime on the country and the process of unprecedented suffering and destruction caused by the Khmer.
