This paper provides an eyewitness perspective of the Hutu extremist insurgency during the Rwandan civil war and genocide in 1994. The author details how the insurgency intended to eliminate all Tutsis and Hutu political moderates, thus ensuring the political control and dominance of Rwanda by Hutu extremists. The paper details how after the initial conclusion of the civil war the majority of Hutu soldiers and militia fled to Zaire, from where they later initiated another insurgency based out of refugee camps in the eastern part of the country.
