This publication addresses how China has responded to the coronavirus pandemic regarding its global posture and foreign policy. Key contentions include 1) that China hoped that in tackling the Covid-19 crisis, the US would be willing to cooperate and put aside the confrontation between the two countries; 2) Beijing believes that Washington essentially rebuffed offers of cooperation, meaning a détente with the US is now not possible; 3) China now sees an escalation in tensions with the US as an inevitable part of its goal of increasing its global influence, and it is adjusting its global posture accordingly.
