Amid growing public disaffection, this analysis examines Algeria’s attempts to protect its welfare state from plunging oil prices, rising living costs, and high rates of youth unemployment. Without political and economic reforms, the text’s author argues, the instability caused by these difficulties could lead to widespread strife within an already fragile country.
