This article analyzes the possible impact the Trump administration’s economic program might have on Germany’s interests. If the program does indeed combine extensive infrastructure investments, tax cuts and protectionist policies together, it would collide directly with Germany’s emphasis on free trade, the protection of creditor states, and low emissions-based economic development. Given these pronounced differences, the text’s author believes Germany should pursue greater EU integration in order to strengthen its future negotiating position with the US.
