This paper provides an overview of events in late July 2020 regarding the US-China rivalry. The author argues 1) that the US is moving towards a policy of fostering public opinion against the regime in China; 2) but this policy would have no impact on the legitimacy and stability of Beijing, and only further undermine the hopes for rapprochement between the two powers; 3) China is now resigned to a world order where its differences with the US are irreconcilable, and where military confrontation is increasingly possible, and more.
