This publication examines the current and future threat posed by the so-called Islamic State (IS) and what should be done about it, particularly with relation to Australia. The text first focuses on four enablers that allow IS to keep operating – i.e., 1) environmental factors; 2) military capabilities; 3) information operations; and 4) economic power. The report then looks at the ongoing Iraqi offensive in Mosul, primarily to shed light on IS’ current strategy and to recommend counter-IS options for the Australian government.
