This publication reflects on US-Iran tensions in the Persian Gulf, including the role of other key actors including China, Russia, Turkey and Qatar. Key insights include 1) that the outcome of the Moscow Summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping will have a disproportionate influence over the next phases of unfolding crises throughout the Greater Middle East; 2) even though both Russia and China are unhappy with Iranian activities and policies in the Iraq-Syria-Lebanon area, they will support Iran in the confrontation with the US in order to expedite the consolidation of the New Silk Road; 3) the US is escalating its covert actions against Iran, something which will only bring about a harsh reaction from Tehran, and more.
