This report presents the views of ex-combatants from the civil war in Liberia on how well they are assimilating into peacetime society. It comments on the challenges, the hopes and dreams of ex-combatants and what might prompt them to take up arms once more. It examines several factors, including poverty, unemployment, family acceptance and gender. The authors find that the great majority of ex-combatants are motivated to avoid war and, at this stage, indicate that no circumstances could induce them to return to war.
