This working paper discusses topics affecting the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in terms of the impact expected upon China. The nuclear test carried out by the DPRK led to a more resolute stance on the part of China and greater considerations of regional stability, with the prospects for nuclear disarmament and an re-assessment of the strategic value of the DPRK to China gaining greater saliency. The economic situation in the DPRK is explored, and the indicators Chinese analysts use to assess stability trends in the DPRK are also discussed.
