This paper argues that China and the EU have entered a new era of close relations, which will include strengthened political-economic relations and cooperation. Further contentions include 1) that Beijing is convinced that this is an irreversible development that will rejuvenate the European economy; 2) that the EU’s treatment of the company Huawei and its 5G network technology is a key factor in Beijing’s assessment of Europe’s commitment to ties with China; 3) Europe’s growing dependence on China for economic growth and its positioning as global power will ultimately bring about its integration into a Beijing-led Eurasian sphere of influence, and more.
