What are the ongoing implications of hundreds of thousands of refugees returning to Afghanistan, primarily from Pakistan? This brief grapples with this question by looking at 1) the humanitarian, socio-economic and security concerns raised by the returnees, including the protections and levels of assistance they can expect; and 2) how the large-scale displacement of all these people is directly attributable to the current political tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
