To better understand what accounts for the effectiveness of peacebuilding dialogue projects, this article assesses past dialogue program grants funded by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP). Key findings include that successful projects 1) utilized an inclusive approach when selecting participants; 2) empowered participants and local partners to undertake leadership roles in the process; and 3) fostered and maintained credibility and strong connections with local communities and shareholders.
