This paper explores the transferability of reconciliation and “intercultural cohesion” mechanisms from one region to another. More specifically, the text’s authors identify the relevant structural factors and preconditions that are necessary for peaceful intercultural dialogue and cooperation in the Danish-German region of Schleswig-Holstein and the contested region of Nagorno-Karabakh. The authors then contemplate whether the positive results of the Schleswig-Holstein case are applicable to Nagorno-Karabakh, despite the historical, geographical, and cultural differences that exist between the two regions. Seemingly, a proactive civil society is critical to making such transfers possible.
