This publication looks at Bhutan’s position in the geopolitical rivalry between China and India. Key issues addressed include 1) the military standoff between India and China in a disputed territory along the Bhutan-China border area in June 2017; 2) where Bhutan stands in the geopolitical competition between India and China; 3) the political and economic reasons why India was content with deescalating the situation along the disputed border as well as the country’s continuing concerns about China; 4) China’s long-term strategic interests in the China-Bhutan-Indian border region, and more.
