This publication examines developments in what the author argues is China’s endeavor to become the global hegemon. Key points include 1) that Chinese President Xi Jinping now has more than ever before; 2) though the leadership in Beijing recognizes that China is undergoing a difficult period, Xi Jinping has support from across-the-board for the path he has chosen for the country to follow; 2) in charting a future course of China, Beijing is far more interested in exploiting the unfolding major trends in the Eastern Hemisphere than confronting the US; 3) Beijing is convinced that the ramifications of worsening tensions with the US are but bumps on the road to China’s inevitable ascent, and more.
