In the current course of the Corona crisis, ambivalent effects on the military policy of European states are emerging, argues Amos Dossi in this contribution for the CSS Corona Blog. On the one hand, there is the threat of collapsing defense budgets and additional expectations with regard to subsidiary missions. On the other hand, this fundamental event also holds the chance to strengthen the political and social anchoring of the armed forces - provided that within the crisis‘ review process the abstraction from a "pandemic" to a more general "crisis situation" and from "national defense" to a more comprehensive "strategic crisis insurance" is successful.
