The study analyzes middle- and long-term trends in the domains of environment, technology and society in respect to their challenges, chances and implications for civil protection and disaster management. The analysis examined twelve trends: Climate Change, Metropolization, Pandemics, Resource scarcity, «Big Data», Unmanned systems, New media, Mobility, Change of norms and values, Efficiency pressure, Demographic change, and Privatization of critical infrastructures. The study aimed to provide a systematic analysis of relevant trends as well as to identify necessary steps to adapt and improve disaster management practices beyond the year 2015. This way the report should support the adaptation of the Swiss civil protection system.
