On September 17, our parent organization the Center for Security Studies (CSS) launched a new publication. "Policy Perspectives" provides expert analyses on the 'hot button' issues and developments in global security. The commentaries, which are written by CSS researchers or renowned external contributors, are short and to the point. They also provide the clearest insight possible into the critical trends and debates shaping today’s security discourse.

In the first issue, the CSS’ Jonas Grätz examines the growing tug-of-war between Russia and the European Union (EU) over their shared spheres of influence, with a particular focus on Ukraine. He believes that while Moscow remains determined to prevent Ukraine’s drift towards the West, the EU is well-positioned to counteract Russian pressure. In particular, he provides four policy options that Brussels may want to pursue in order to counter Russia’s traditionally strong influence over Ukraine’s gas sector.

With its specific focus on concrete policy options, ‘Deflating Russia’s Gas Pressure’ sets the tone for future Policy Perspectives, which we will feature prominently on our website.
