This workshop report focuses on the evolving security and political situation in Mali and how it’s impacting both the mandate and political strategy of the United Nations Multidimensional Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA). Assuming that the UN will renew the Mission’s mandate, it should strive to 1) restore state authority; 2) promote local-level reconciliation; 3) improve security in Central Mali; 4) adopt a flexible approach to the protection of civilians; and 5) analyze the role of organized crime within the country.
