This paper analyzes the Obama administration’s long-term foreign policy, which has been designed to re-legitimize US leadership in a changing world. While exploring this theme, the text’s author 1) establishes a set of preconditions for the role of a liberal hegemon; 2) reviews the US’ hegemonic foreign policy in the years following the Cold War; and 3) examines key components of Obama’s foreign policy, including the restoration of shared interests and values between the US and key allies; the enhancement of institutional procedures that encourage multilateralism; and the promotion of cooperative relations with other major powers.
