This paper examines France’s position on the UK’s pending Brexit negotiations with the EU. While Paris perceives London’s departure as basically inimical to its own interests, the text’s author believes it will exploit the situation to enhance its political and economic influence within the Union. In practical terms, this may mean 1) limiting the UK’s access to the EU’s financial services sector, and 2) requesting that it contribute to the EU budget.
