The articles in this CTC Sentinel focus on 1) the rise of the New York-based extremist group, the Revolutionary Muslim, and how it was put out of business by the NYPD; 2) the implications of a lingering allegiance to the so-called Islamic State (IS) among young men in Mosul, Iraq; 3) the Islamic State Khorasan (ISK) in Afghanistan and Pakistan and its rivalries with existing militant groups in the region; and 4) Junaid Hussain, a British hacker who, until his death in 2015, was IS’s most prolific English-language social media propagandist. The issue also includes an interview with William Weinreb, former Acting United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts, and Harold Shaw, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Boston Division, regarding the 2015 Boston Marathon bombing.
