This report explores political developments in Kuwait in 2008 in light of foreign policy toward the US, as well as economic and security cooperation. The author shows that Kuwait has been pivotal to US involvement in Iraq since the 1980s, but experienced internal turmoil as a result of economic issues and the political dominance of the ruling family since 2005. He states that Sunni-Shiite tensions are increasing and that political stalemate would delay key energy projects between the US and Kuwait.
