This publication discusses how the regime in Myanmar, headed by the 75-year-old General Than Shwe, continues to control the destiny of the nation. The author explains that the answer to curing the malaise in Myanmar, thus, lays perhaps not so much in force as in peer pressure and persuasion. The paper concludes that change will not come in Myanmar through sanctions and attempts at isolating it but it may come through trade, tourism and engagement.
