This report provides an assessment of the Iranian nuclear and missile programs and an evaluation of the European missile defense system. It argues that the threat against which the European missile defense system is intended to provide protection is not imminent, and that in any event the system currently proposed would not be effective against it. According to the authors, it is much more urgent to seek a resolution of the crisis over Iran’s nuclear program by finding means to enable Iran to reassure the international community that its nuclear program is directed only toward peaceful purposes.
