This publication discusses the role of the South Sudan Defence Force (SSDF) in the Sudan peace process. The authors analyze the emergence of the SSDF, classify its various components, and outline their concerns. The article explains that due to the SSDF's size, strategic location and propensity to fight and resist, a viable and sustainable peace process needs its support.
