This publication examines the factors that are damaging to the peace process in South Sudan. The article maintains that the main issues are problems with the implementation of the security agreements, lack of trust between negotiating partners and weaknesses of the monitoring instruments. The authors argue for making the peace process more inclusive of different parties, creating a transitional national government that has the confidence of the Sudanese people, and making the monitoring instruments more accountable in order to achieve sustainable peace.
