This publication discusses the challenges to the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in Sudan. The author defines the most pressing threats to security as ceasefire violations, military redeployment and border demarcation. The article moreover points to political challenges such as problems with the rule of law, the judiciary, the census and the preparations for the 2008/9 national elections. The author argues that there remains the fundamental political challenge of creating a united Sudanese vision, which is crucial to the peace process in Sudan.
