In the wake of the fundamental changes in the international security landscape since the end of the 20th century, this paper discusses the imperative for a new strategic concept for NATO. It outlines the process, the purpose and the likely challenges in the way of drafting such a concept. The author states that given the wide spectrum of national preferences, regional priorities and political differences among the 28 NATO member states, forging consensus will be an extremely demanding task.
