This paper analyzes the effect of foreign acquisition on the survival probability and employment growth of a target plant using data from Swedish manufacturing plants. The authors argue that acquisition by foreign owners increases the lifetime of the acquired plants only if the plant is an exporter. The effect differs, they add, depending on whether the acquisition is horizontal or vertical.
