This paper summarizes discussions from a roundtable debate on energy security in the European context. Questions addressed by the participants include the effect on regional stability as a result of Russia's emergence as the primary purveyor of natural gas for the European market; evolving EU-Russia relations in light of rival pipeline projects, such as Nabucco and South Stream; the potential role of Iran as an energy supplier; and security implications for NATO and the EU from increasing jurisdiction claims over great swathes of open sea in the Arctic.
