This paper discusses the methodological measures of industrial concentration and regional specialization. The authors propose a taxonomy which gives rise to a modular construction system for disproportionality measures. They argue that this helps reduce the mismatch between research purpose, data and statistical measure. Furthermore, the taxonomy is extended to measures of polarization and to spatial concentration.
